Elipe Sánchez, Antonio

Antonio Elipe obtained his Degree in Mathematics in 1979 and his Ph. D. in 1983, both from the University of Zaragoza. He carried out his postdoctoral studies at the US National Institute of Standards and Technology with Dr. André Deprit, from 1989 to 1990 and 1992.
Since 2015 is President of the Royal Academy of Sciences of Zaragoza.
He has served on the Faculty of Science of the University of Zaragoza, as Profesor Ayudante (Assistant Professor) (1979-1984), Profesor Titular (Associate Professor) (1985-06) and Catedrático (Full Professor) (2006-present). He served also as Vice-Dean (2000-03) and Dean (2003-06) of the Faculty of Science. He has been the first Director (2006-09) of the IUMA (Instituto Universitario de Matemáticas y Aplicaciones) of the University of Zaragoza, and currently is the first Director of the CUD (Centro Universitario de la Defensa).
His main research interests are in Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Systems where he has coauthored over 120 scientific papers, and written several books. He was co-editor of "Visual Double Stars: Formation, Dynamics and Evolutionary Tracks" (Kluwer, 1997) and of several workshops on Celestial Mechanics. Dr. Elipe has six stretchs (starting in 1980) of positive assessment of research activity granted by Ministry of Education.
He has been member of the editorial board of Revista Matemática Complutense and currently of Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Astronomy . He has been invited lecturer in several conferences. He participated in many research projects either as researcher of principal investigator, and in several projects in collaboration with industries.
Prof. Elipe received several distinctions and prizes (Fellow of the AAS (American Astronautical Society, 2018); Associate Fellow of the AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, 2003); Member of the Real Academia de Ciencias de Zaragoza (2000); Research Prize of the Real Academia de Ciencias de Zaragoza, 1988; Best Ph. D. Dissertation by Fundación "Fernando el Católico", 1984) and several militar medals: Naval Merit Cross, 2002; Silver Cross of Guardia Civil, 2015; Militar Merit Cross, 2017. He is founder member of the European Astronomical Society and Sociedad Española de Astronomía; member of several scientific societies (International Astronomical Union, American Astronautical Society, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Sociedad Española de Matemática Aplicada, Real Sociedad Matemática Española) and belonged to the executive board of the Spanish Comisión Nacional de Astronomía (2006-10).
