Admission

According to the Real decreto 99/2011, de 28 de enero, that rules the official doctorate studies, to access the doctorate program it is mandatory to be in possession of an official Spanish degree (or something equivalent) and a universitary master. Nevertheless, it is also possible to access to the doctorate program those people that fit some of the following situations:

  1. Being in possession of a Spanish, or another member country of the EEES, official university degree that enables access to master studies in accordance with the provisions of Article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/2007 of 29 October on the organization of official university studies, and having completed a minimum of 300 ECTS in all the official university studies, of which at least 60 must correspond to master courses.
  2. Being in possession of an official Spanish graduate degree, whose duration, according to the rules of Community law, is at least 300 ECTS. These graduates are required to take mandatory training supplements, unless the coursed degree include research training credits, equivalent in value to educational research credits from master studies.
  3. Being in possession of a degree from foreign educational systems, preflight University that it accredits a level equivalent to that of the Spanish official university master's degree training and empowering the country issuing the qualification for admission to doctoral studies. This admission does not imply, in any case, the recognition of the previous title in the possession of the person concerned or his recognition for purposes other than the access to doctoral studies.
  4. Being in possession of another Spanish title of doctor obtained according to previous laws.
  5. It may be admitted to doctoral studies, Licensed, Architects and engineers who were in possession of the Diploma of Advanced Studies obtained in accordance with the provisions of Royal Decree 778/98 of 30 April or had reached sufficient research regulated by RD 185/1985, of 23 January.

Some studies that allow the access to this doctorate follow:

  • Licenciatura en Matemáticas
  • Licenciatura en Física
  • Ingenierías
  • Licenciatura en Informática
  • Licenciatura en Estadística
  • Máster interuniversitario de Iniciación a la Investigación en Matemáticas
  • Máster interuniversitario en Modelización Matemática, Estadística y Computación
  • Máster interuniversitario en Modelización e Investigación Matemática, Estadística y Computación.

It may also be admitted to the doctoral program students who have completed master's degrees in other fields related to mathematics in the UZ, UO, UPV, ULL, UPNa or other universities. This admission may be accompanied by appropriate additional training, as appropriate, which will consist of between 12 and 30 credits of the offered master, fixed by the academic committee. Evaluation of candidates.
The program has a candidacy evaluation mechanism that is applied by each local academic committee in the following way (summary taken from the memory of the degree):
Candidate applicationes will be evaluated on a maximum of 100 points, which will be assigned as follows:
Maximum of 40 points for the academic record of the Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent).
Maximum of 20 points for the Master's academic record (or equivalent).
Maximum of 10 points for the candidate's previous scientific production.
Maximum of 10 points for accrediting (or demonstrating in an interview) a level of English.
Maximum of 10 points for the cover letter.
Maximum of 10 points for other merits stated by the candidate, such as accrediting awards, patents, scholarships, research stays in reference centers or previous professional experience in R + D + I.
The minimum score to access the program will be 50 points, calculated with the above criteria. Candidates scoring less than 50 points will not be accepted.

Activities

Transversal training

The transversal training activities are those that are useful for all people who are doing a doctorate regardless of their area of knowledge, since they promote training in transversal skills during the training stage of the doctorate.

These are published on the web pages of the different Doctoral Schools:

  • Transversal training at ULL
  • Transversal training at UO
  • Transversal training at UPNa
  • Transversal training at UPV/EHU
  • Transversal training at UZ

Quality

This program uses several mechanisms to ensure quality:

  • Dynamic control and fully customized and updated situation of Phd. students; constant and continuous treatment with them.
  • Regular meetings (twice a year) with the Chairman of the departments that take part of the program and an annual meeting ot the students with all teachers to discuss the progress in the PhD program.
  • Encuestas to obtain feedback from students:Objective criteria for the admissibility of a doctoral thesis
    1. The first one is done to the students of the Máster en Modelización Matemática, Estadística y Computación to inform us about their tastes, preferences in order to approach them to the adequate teacher and research line, according to their preferences and qualities.
    2. The second one is held annually to students with active Doctorate to collect their opinion in order to modify, or not, some aspects of the process of the realization of the thesis.
    3. The third and final survey, is done to students who have just completed their doctoral thesis in order to define and implement improvement actions throughout the process they have followed.
  • There are information leaflets that are distributed throughout the Faculty and provide general program information.
  • The annual evaluation reports prepared by the Program can be found here.
  • Any doubt, complaint, or suggestion can be sent either directly to the program coordinator at each university or through the following form. Your comments are very important to us.
