Lorién Lascorz Lozano (Universidad de Zaragoza) impartirá la conferencia "Visualizing complex orbifold"

Resumen:
Orbifolds, introduced by Ichiro Satake in 1956 as V-manifolds, generalize the concept of differentiable
manifolds by allowing local charts to be quotients under finite group actions. This
framework naturally extends classical tools from algebraic topology, including covering spaces
and the fundamental group, to spaces that may exhibit singularities. In particular, global
orbifolds can be obtained as quotients of manifolds by finite group actions, producing singular
structures determined by fixed points. Through visual examples in complex and projective
spaces, we illustrate these ideas and highlight how group actions influence the geometric and
topological properties of the resulting orbifolds.
